And I Quote is a reading journal for capturing quotes from physical books. This policy explains, in plain language, what happens to your data — the short version is: it stays on your device, and we never see it.
Nothing. And I Quote has no account, no login, no analytics, no crash-reporting service, no advertising identifiers, and no server of our own. There is no mechanism in the app for your books, quotes, name, or any other personal data to leave your device — because there's nowhere for it to go.
Every book and quote you add, along with your display name and any app preferences (theme, app icon), is stored in a local database on your iPhone only. Deleting the app deletes that data. Nobody but you has access to it.
The only time And I Quote talks to the internet is when you scan a book's ISBN barcode to auto-fill its title and author. In that single case, the scanned ISBN number is sent to Open Library, a free, nonprofit book catalog run by the Internet Archive, to look up the book's details. Nothing else about you, your device, or your library is included in that request — and if you type a book's details in manually instead of scanning, no network request happens at all.
The app uses your camera for two purposes only: photographing a book page so it can extract the quoted text, and scanning an ISBN barcode. Photos are processed on your device and are not stored by the app or sent anywhere.
And I Quote is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from anyone, of any age — because it does not collect data at all.
A future version may offer optional iCloud sync, so your library can follow you across your own devices. If that ships, this policy will be updated to describe it — but even then, your data would sync privately through your own iCloud account, never through a server we operate or can see into.
